The 4 Main Types of E-bike Riders

There is a misconception that riding an e-bike is “uncool.” Many hardcore commuters or bike messengers will scoff at the electric motor, claiming it is for cheaters. Of course, this is the completely wrong approach to riding an e-bike. Most bike riders don’t want to be involved in an endurance contest, they just want to have fun and help the environment by ditching the car.

So what kinds of people ride electric bikes? This is the most common question we get asked and the truth is we see different e-bike riders every day, and each one has their own reasons for getting on over a normal bicycle. But most of them fit into these four main types of riders…

The Businessman

The Businessman

One of the biggest markets for e-bicycles is office workers. They normally ride their e-bike to work in a suit and tie using the electric motor because they don’t want to sweat through their clothes en route. This is a great reason to ride an e-bike and some of them will even turn off the electric power on the way home so they can get a workout from pedalling.

The Food Delivery People

The Food Delivery People

Riding an e-bike for 12 hours a day every day is a feat of strength. Doing ANY physical activity for 12 hours a day every day is hard. Do you want to tell these guys they’re cheating? It’s a tough as nails job and an e-bike lets them do it in style and get your food to you faster.

The Big Money Ballers

The Trial Pros

They spend thousands on a downhill e-bike and then drive cars everywhere else. True professional downhill e-bikes can cost a lot for sure, but the endurance they need to survive those jumps and dips means they need to be extra strong, especially given the extra weight.

Those who Need Physical Assistance

Those who Need Physical Assistance

Not everyone is in peak physical condition and for those of us who struggle with joint problems, or other weakened conditions, an e-bike is the ideal rehabilitation vehicle. Just the prospect of pedalling a bike again is a miracle, so of course they’re proud to be out on the streets and tracks again. This makes up the biggest chunk of the e-bike market by a clear mile, but the business man is definitely catching up.
