E-Bikes Are Causing Problems for Blind People
September 6, 2022While some e-bike haters will be thinking this e-bike news is about how quiet they are and the “dangerous” speeds they can go it is actually about hire e-bikes being dumped all over central London. While some of these bikes are from the Uber owned hire firm “Jump” most of the issues are caused by the dockless e-bikes owned by “Lime“. A company spokesperson for Lime said that they were committed to removing wrongly parked e-bikes “within a short time frame”.
The main issue seemed to be that these e-bikes are just being left in random places, mostly because they are dockless, they can indeed be dumped anywhere without repercussions to the paying rider who left the bike there. People have tripped over them and injured themselves, while others have had to walk much further than they would have normally just to avoid them.
Here at EB-UK we would like to point out that this is NOT an e-bike-only issue and no matter what jump-on-and-ride hire vehicles there are in the bigger cities they nearly always get left and dumped in the manner. First, it was cycles, then electric scooters and now e-bikes. Until these hire modes of transport can park themselves or at least insist that they are parked in bays can you really get rid of this problem. And to be fair it really does sound like a problem, so do read the full article here – https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-62794829
While I can see some people having rare issues most people park their ebikes in the docks provided and this really isn’t as big an issue as some people are making out.
This issue has become a real problem in London where I ride my e-bike around. There are hire e-bike and normal bikes left everywhere with many of them being stripped for parts by vandals.
